An opportunity nearly missed...

What an opportunity nearly missed. Being in the right place at the right time led the way to an amazing day at Lakeside Equestrian Centre in Windsor. I saw a Facebook post posted by Georgi Broom who runs lakeside saying that they had a space on their Chatlotte DuJardin clinic. It's amazing how fast you can get on the phone when you want to. Georgi told me that the space had been filled but she was just waiting for them to confirm - she would call me back. An hour passed and then my phone rang "12.15 OK for you? The space is yours".
On the 4th May we set off for Windsor. It was the most beautiful sunny day. Dianti and I were fit and ready to go although I was slightly nervous about what Charlotte would think about us.
Georgi and her team were really welcoming. I had arrived quite early so that I could watch a bit of the other riders so Dianti was settled into one of their stables - she made herself quite at home in the relaxed atmosphere.
I warmed up 15 minutes before it was my turn so I knew we were ready to perform. Charlotte and I discussed where Dianti and I were as a partnership and then it was time to work.
Charlotte was very quick to pick up on our strengths and weaknesses. We worked on our straightness, which is something we all struggle with. Once we got better at this we worked on Dianti being more flexible through the rib cage and getting more engagement from the hind leg. Lots of shoulderin to quarters in, shoulderin to renver and half passes. Charlotte loved Dianti telling me that she had a fabulous trot but that I would have to be patient with her as she is a big mare and is still developing. "Definite Grand Prix material" - these are the words everyone wants to hear from a world champion about their horse.
After my lesson, lunch was put out - sandwiches, cakes, pimms and cups of tea. I was definitely in need of a good lunch.
Charlotte made things simple and easy to understand and was very approachable. Her training was every bit as good as her riding. World class.
Thank you to Lakeside Equestrian Centre for hosting such a fantastic day. Needless to say Dianti slept most of the next day.
